Tax Strategy

Find your AGI. Determine your tier.

Tax planning is not one-size-fits-all. Start with your income, add your filing status, and get tier-based feedback you can hand to your CPA.

Step 1 — Enter your AGI

Start by entering your Adjusted Gross Income. On Form 1040, it is the line labeled “Adjusted Gross Income.”

Tip: if you only know your total income, that is okay — we will guide you. We will automatically determine your tier from this number.

Where to find AGI

  • Form 1040, Line 11 (Adjusted Gross Income).
  • Total income minus “above-the-line” adjustments.
  • Schedule 1 lists extra income and adjustments.
  • Your tax software usually shows this number on the summary page.
